Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember being mesmerized by games that come to life? Or thinking that you wish you could turn into an animal by magic? My students are about to embark on a journey into the magical, whimsical world of fantasy, yet there are so many amazing books and characters they have not yet met.

The 3rd grade at my school is an inspiring group of young authors.

They LOVE books, and being inspired by mentor authors. However, books and funds at our school prohibit the extensive library selection afforded by many other schools. We live in a high poverty, urban area. Many of my families are first generation citizens, who believe strongly in the power of education and literacy.

My Project

The third grade is about to embark on a writing adventure. We hope to inspire our students by amazing texts such as Louis the Fish, Zathura and other Chris van Allsburg texts to help spark their imagination as we write fantasy stories. Using strong mentor texts such as these helps inspire students in their own creative writing. Our hope is to provide them a rich opportunity in writing with an experience for them to create their very own published, fantasy hard cover book.

This project would greatly impact my students.

They LOVE reading and using texts to help inspire their writing. I believe the opportunity for the students to feel like authors by creating a hardcover published book would be a wonderful and rewarding end of the year experience. It would also leave them a lasting memory and example of their growth as 3rd grade writers.
