My Students

"We become what we behold. We shape our tools and then our tools shape us." -Marshall McLuhan My classroom is all about creation. Whether it is designing an object to print on the 3D printer or designing a video game using computer programming, the only way to create is with the proper tools.

GEMS is a place that provides its students with the tools necessary to become global leaders in our world.

Our students come from around the state and around the world to learn what it means to be passionate about global issues as well as driven to make a difference locally, nationally and on a global scale. The students are GEMS are unique, they think outside of the box and live by the motto of "if there's a will, there's a way". For students at GEMS, anything is possible. The word can't is not apart of these kids vocabulary.

My Project

The 3D scanner is going to be used to take multiple technology projects to the next level. First off, the 3D scanner is going to take our 3D printing to the next level. Currently my students use the 3D printer to invent new products and innovate existing projects. A 3D scanner will allow my students to scan in models of complex parts and then innovate on them using 3D modeling software to make them better. The students will then be able to print out the parts on our 3D printer. The 3D scanner will be used to improve on our computer programming projects. Over the past two years my students have started to learn how to computer program. My students have been able to create some excellent 2D games and the next step is to start creating 3D games. Instead of strictly modeling on the computer, with assistance's from the school's art department, students will be able to create clay models of their characters, scan them using the 3D printer and then integrate these models into their games.

"You can't just give someone a creativity injection.

You have to create an environment for curiosity and a way to encourage people and get the best out of them." -Ken Robinson My goal for my classroom is to create an environment that allows students to be creative. Without the proper tools, this environment can't be created. A 3D scanner will be used to create endless possibilities for creativity.
