My Students

Nets that can be moved quickly, easily, and fit on a playground area that is uneven concrete and grass, will let us introduce racket skills to students who would otherwise not be able to play tennis, badminton or pickle ball. Please help us maximize our playground and improve striking skills.

Elementary students who attend public schools in a low economic area in MI would love to get the chance to learn and try racket sports such as tennis.

This would allow us to introduce a new sport to children who have no tennis courts in the neighborhood. This includes all children no matter what academic level, no matter what reading level, no matter what learning disability. The use of this system would include autistic children, children with learning disabilities, (ADHD, ADD) students with athletic skills, and students with emotional issues. Our school is a 3rd-4th grade building that includes male and female students and a minority of Spanish speaking families. We try to present our students with a wide range of curriculum such as art, physical education, music, computer and health. Our playground is landlocked which presents a physical handicap for certain activities.

My Project

The Big Red Net system will allow us to introduce various racket sports to our students who would otherwise never get the opportunity for such an adventure. This would allow us to introduce a unit that would include tennis, badminton, and pickle ball both in the gym and on the playground. This would allow the students to have more on task time with racket and ball in hand and not in some long line waiting their turn. All of our students will learn eye hand coordination through participation with various length of rackets. Our students would get the chance to experience all of these sports in a safe environment within the boundary of the net system. Students will know that there is more to life than only basketball. They will learn a skill or sport that can last a lifetime.

It will allow a child a new experience. ALL students will participate in these activities and show them that tennis is not a sport only for the highly affluenced. This will give our students another choice for a safe activity in their lives.
