"Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn." ~Ben Franklin~ Let's face it, can you find more powerful words to represent a school and learning? Having upgraded school computers is critical in today's world. My goal is to "involve" the students with 21st Century tools.
My library is without a doubt, the center of the school.
I see all students no less that once a week. Some grades levels come more often. I am fortunate to work at a dedicated and committed elementary feeder school with 544 students from Pre-K through 5th grade. We are definitely a community that is centered on education and our children. I have taught several grade levels and feel I have finally found a true home as a librarian and book lover. I see all students weekly and love it. Our school is blessed with wonderful students who love to read and teachers who are in the teaching profession for all of the right reasons.
My Project
Technology is part of our school's vision. The library is the center of our school and as the librarian, I "involve" our students with activities by offering technology activities. As new technologies emerge annually, we're working to gain new equipment to enhance student learning. We've had an "Eye on Tech" campaign in place since 2009. However, with the recent XP computers needing Windows 7 updates, it feels as if we've taken a step back. The updates left a crippling effect on the use of many computers. In short, our library computers will not last much longer. With new library computers, it would benefit our school. Though we need six, I'd settle for one. We use the computers for many reading activities to encourage reading, as well as to foster growth through STAR, AR and iReady reading programs. These programs, in addition to reading online and working with comprehension strategies, all tie into our school's library program every day. Computers are now a priority in our school's library.
Together, you and I have a rare opportunity that would help me as the librarian bring Windows 8 computers to the library.
Benjamin Franklin once said, “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” With the help of your funding, my motto is, "Involve my students with technology and they will learn!" Ben Franklin's motto takes on a 21st century spin with needed technology in schools today. Will you consider helping me "involve" my students on a unique library journey?
