My Students

A classroom full of rhythm instruments is not enough! With music only once a week, my students are quickly progressing as they learn about music. They will be so much more successful with some instruments that will actually allow them to hear both pitch and rhythm. We need more than the beat!

I am blessed to have hard-working students, but I cannot deny that our school is comprised of low income, hard working families.

It is infeasible to ask parents to provide "non-essentials," and so I only have the instruments that we have purchased and maintained over the years. These instruments are wonderful, but they are almost all drums and other rhythm instruments--students are not getting the chance to experience melody and pitch. I am especially proud that over the past year NOT ONE of our instruments has been broken. I think that the care and love that my students show for the instruments they have proves how deserving they are of some new sounds and experiences.

My Project

I am requesting a pitched Orff metallophone and one pair of appropriate mallets. I can only imagine how excited my students will be to hear instruments that can provide something above and beyond the beat! My students will be able to explore and create with new sounds. They will increase their own responsibility by being charged with a whole new set of treasures to care for.

Music class is a place where each and every student has the opportunity to be successful, no matter their birth language or income tax bracket.
