Our school is located in New Dorp, Staten Island, NY. Many of our students were hit hard by Hurricane Sandy. Please help me to provide the technology needed to use our Smart board and support the studies going on in our classroom.
Our class is made up of students with many different interests and beliefs.
We are a multicultural, multilingual classroom. There are students who learn well from different modalities. Our class is called an ICT classroom. It is made up of 40% special education students and 60% general education students.
As a classroom teacher it is my job to reach all the students in my class. Some of them have been hit hard by Hurricane Sandy, others are struggling financially and still others have learning disabilities. It would benefit these students if I had the technology in the classroom that they do not have available to them at home.
My Project
A laptop that connects to our Smart board will help me to provide lessons that are exciting would be of optimum benefit for these students. A love of learning needs to be sparked in them. Having the technology available to help me accomplish this task would be amazing.
The ability to foster in these children a love for learning, reading and researching is my primary focus. A student who loves to read, look deeper into a subject and always strive for the best they can do creates a lifelong learner. Lifelong learners are always striving for more; this is what I am trying to create in my classroom.
The students in my class have struggled all through this year.
In the beginning of the year we have had to deal with PCB's in the lights and then Hurricane Sandy. We are finally recovering from some of this disaster. It would greatly benefit them if I could provide the technology that is available to help them in the classroom. This laptop will open the classroom wider so that we can explore more of the world.
