My students need math manipulatives, like the vehicle and sea animal counters to build and improve their basic math skills. Fun games also help reinforce math concepts.
We have an hour time block for math. We spend this time in whole group lessons and at stations. My students have a lot to learn in first grade and not much time to do it!

There are about 180 students at my school (K-3).
We are a public school in a low-income area.
My class consists of 20 students. Twenty students that deserve a chance to develop an appreciation for learning. I want to give them this appreciation. I want to be able to open their eyes to new ideas and concepts. I want them to have the same opportunities as children outside of low-income areas.
My Project
My students LOVE math workshop! A typical day of math workshop in my classroom starts with a whole group lesson. I teach our lesson for the day, model the lesson for them, and then send them to their stations to work in groups. The math manipulatives that I am requesting will allow me to better demonstrate the math concepts we are learning about during whole group. They will also be used directly by the students in their math stations. The vehicle and sea animal counters are great for counting, sorting, and comparing numbers. The 10 frames are great for number recognition, adding, and subtraction. The students love having hands on activities to complete. The counters, ten frames, and games all help to deepen their understanding of the math concepts they are expected to learn in first grade...all while having fun!
The items I'm requesting will give my students more hands on opportunities in math.
They will be able to explore the manipulatives and better develop their understanding of basic concepts. Having a better understanding of these basic concepts, will help them in later grades when the concepts become more complex.
