My Students

Every child loves to be read to, but not all get that opportunity. But with the addition of big books to my classroom reading center, each student will get to experience the joy of being read to.

I have a group of active, bright and naturally inquisitive first graders.

They are anxious to get to school each day and learn all they can. They love books and listening to stories read to them by their teacher. Whole group read aloud time is their favorite part of the day.

My Project

Through the use of the materials I'm requesting, my students will not only get the experience of being read to, but these stories will connect the curriculum in various ways. The students will get to hear how fluent reading sounds, they will participate in phonemic awareness and phonics activities, and writing and language experience opportunities. These books may spark a science investigation or math question. But most importantly the students will gain an appreciation for literature, and develop a love for reading.

The best indicator of a child's success is the ability to become literate.

These materials will be a step in the right direction. The more a child reads the more their vocabulary increases, and they learn new things. Developing a love for reading early in a child's academic life opens up the world to them.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
