My Students

When you were a student, did you understand EVERYTHING your teacher taught? Research states that students tend to learn better from their peers.

My students read 2-3 grades below grade level.

They are students who try their best, but sometimes do not meet the standard for passing. When this is done, they have a tendency to shut-down and get very defensive. We are part of a high-poverty school.

My Project

Students will use this tool to create what I call "lesson trailers." Lesson trailers will work the same way movie trailers work. Movie trailers advertise movies, and lesson trailers will advertise lessons and skills. Lesson trailers will give important points of the lesson, examples, and quick lesson assessments that will be performed by students who have mastered the skill for students who have not mastered the skill. This will allow the student who performs to use jargon and strategies they have created to teach other students so that they can also become privy to information to help them master the skill.

Research states that students have a tendency to learn from their peers.

Peer mediation, Ask 1-Tell 1, and Cooperative Groups are three strategies where students are able to glean from one another to learn a skill. This tool will help the student who has not mastered the skill, in addition to helping the student who has mastered the skill by allowing them to use their own creativity and knowledge to teach their peers.
