We are a public elementary school, 300 students, in kindergarten through grade 5. There are two or three classes per grade level. We have specials that include art, phys ed, music, library, and tech/computer classes. The students have one special a day that lasts 45 minutes. They also have the opportunity to participate in chorus and/or band. I am the library media and technology integrator, which to me are the best of both worlds! As often as I can, I like to link books in our collection to help the students make outside connections. Currently, the movie "Hugo" is playing in the theaters. We have highly touted the book, "The Invention of Hugo Cabret,' which has stimulated much interest in the kids. Viewing the trailers of popular movies is an effective way to get interest sparked! Many of our 4th graders took out all the copies of the book we had and then their teacher arranged for a mini "field trip" to the cinemas to see the movie!
