I work as a speech pathologist in an Educational Life Skills (ELS) program. About 2/3 of the wonderful students I work with have Autism. A number of my students are unable to communicate verbally. Some of my students already have devices that help them talk. Others are waiting for funding sources to come through to help them purchase a device. The teachers and support staff at my school work hard every day to teach our students both academic and life skills (such as grooming, performing household chores, etc.) Communication is the common denominator in all of life's interactions. Access to communication is a fundamental right that must be provided without exception or discrimination. We are asking for an iPad (and related accessories) to be used as a trial communication device for our students who will likely benefit from a speech generating device (SGD).
