Most of my students come from low income families that may or may not have access to the Internet or periodicals. Most of them are concerned about their day to day financial struggles and family issues. Because our families can't afford textbook fees, and our district can't afford to provide the textbooks due to funding limitations, our science class does not have traditional science textbooks. Our curriculum is inquiry based, so we use simple experiments with basic materials to learn concepts. Without a text to rely on, some students struggle to connect concepts experienced in the labs to real life applications.
