What are Funding Opportunities and how do they work?

In addition to receiving donations from everyday citizens, teachers who submit projects for funding at DonorsChoose.org may be eligible for a variety of funding opportunities. These funding opportunities reduce the cost of teachers’ projects so that citizens are more readily able to bring these projects to life.

  1. Double Your Impact (Match) offer

A grantor promises a 50% match offer on projects that meet certain criteria. This promise to match is posted on all qualifying projects, but funding is only applied to projects if citizens donate the other 50% before the grant runs out or before the project expires.

  2. Tipping Point offer

A grantor funds a project meeting certain criteria so that the project needs only $99 in funding to be completed. Once this funding is applied, other donors can join in and fund the rest of the project at the new $99 price. This "tipping point" funding is applied to eligible projects on a bi-weekly basis unless otherwise stated.

  3. One-time “Other” Funding offer

A grantor offers a certain amount of funding to projects that meet a very particular set of criteria. The dollar amounts applied to projects and the criteria for funding vary, so please read these offers carefully to make sure that your project idea is eligible before submitting.

A list of current funding opportunities is distributed to all registered teachers monthly via our teacher newsletter. You can also view these opportunities via our teacher homepage, under “Announcements.”
