Donate to a project in support of Autism: Not a Diesease BUT a Different Way of LIVING

She rushed into the room, ushering a wave unbridled excitement. The score of people seated around circular tables simply stared at her. I imagined that they were mesmerized by an inexplicable aura about her - her enthusiasm for life was palpable. She was appreciative of every aspect of her life. She was immensely understanding. These, I came to know later. However, her first glimpse presented all these and more... I naturally assumed that she was a fascinating student of my college, expecting her to take a seat. However, she was immediately sent out, with a firm command to wait for the end of the meeting. I later learnt that she was autistic. How could she contain her joy? She was going to meet her real college friend... A new buddy with whom she could hang out with and include into HER world. She would repeat phrases like "Yeah" or "Happy, Very happy"many times. Her language skills are exemplary. Her presence left me speechless. I suspect that it was actually indecision and the struggle to conceive her as "disordered" or "abnormal". Head and heart were at battle. Intuitive wisdom triumphed over copious amounts of logic and reasoning. There was something about her that made me watch in awe. At that moment, somehow, I knew for SURE that she was not below ordinary or even ordinary. She was extraordinary.
