"If we only had a rug!" I am an early interventionist in kindergarten and 1st grade. My focus is students in need of just a little bit of extra attention. I do small group work in my classroom everyday with 5-7 developmentally delayed students in 5th and 1st grade. I pull these students from their regular classes to work on basic skills, such as colors, numbers and writing their names. Hopefully, my intervention can prevent their being placed in the special education program. Although I feel I work at the best elementary school in our district, the money is just not there for extras that would make my classroom more comfortable for the kids. I'd love to put a big, colorful rug on the floor so that we could sit comfortably and do work.

My classroom has been a little of everything. It was a storage closet until last year when I began to use it. It is not a large room. I have my desk and a table that I use for my Reading Recovery Lessons. I have other tables in the room but there is not enough room at the tables if I have all the kids at once. Sometimes I pull 5-7 kids at one time. A rug on the floor is a perfect way for me to talk with them and also be able to see what they are doing at the same time. I already have personal boards for them to write on, the rug will enable us to put them to their correct use.

I see students in the room everyday. Sometimes they are in the room by themselves and sometimes they are with a small group. We read books, we write on the white board and sometimes we sit on the floor and just talk about the books we read. If we had a rug for the floor it would be wonderful.

Rug time is valuable in the regular classroom and in mine. Your help will ensure that my students have something to SIT ON!!!
