Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

This fall my school will open a new high school and I have agreed to be the music teacher. Previously, I taught music in the Bronx to special education students. At my new school I will be working with high school, emotionally disturbed and mentally retarded kids. I have had success teaching violin to these populations before and would love the opportunity to do it again!

My students are the first to attend this new high school opening this fall. As such, resources will be extremely limited. The music program has, essentially, no supplies. I believe that music is a universal language and is essential to enable students to have an expressive outlet. My students feel so much and giving them a voice is amazing.

By providing my students with violins, I will be able to give them the outlet they are in need of. In addition, the success my students have onstage is often one of the few successes they experience. I believe it is an important component in developing their self-esteem. Students will participate in the violin program and, eventually, become proficient. They will perform in concerts, both in the school and in the community.

By funding my proposal, you will change the experience my students have in this new high school. Students will feel empowered and successful in their new learning. Through your donation, you are not only helping my students but the community in future years.
