"I had a feverish dream while ill. In my dream, my third grade students were furiously blogging their concepts and questions for the new literacy unit on shiny new laptops, connected to the Internet. The students were commenting on each other's postings, questioning each other's concepts, and cross-posting. Some students uploaded digital images relating to the theme while others use "Clipmarks" of articles on the web to expand their shared-knowledge. As a teacher, in my dream, I posted my comments on their blogs and imagined the Powerpoint presentations that the students would produce at the end of the unit.

I would like a laptop to use technology in my inner-city classroom to build literacy and enhance learning.

We will share this laptop to blog our learning to each other, build Powerpoint presentation, record podcast presentation, create individual and shared publications such as newsletters and books.

This laptop will be used in a third-grade class of 22 students in a high-poverty neighborhood. My students have limited access to computers and the Internet, while the the rest of the world relies heavily on technology nowadays. Currently, our class gets to use computers for 30 minutes once a week, but we are limited to using Microsoft Word or playing "educational" games on the computers. This laptop will help prepare my students for the world of today.

Eventually, I want to build a class set of 10-20 laptops so that I can make my dream a reality: my students all learning how to write using a real-world task, communicating with each other.

The cost of the Lenovo ThinkPad T43 is $1,459, including shipping and fulfillment ?.
