"I am writing to request donations so I may buy books for my students to take home and read. Currently I am a reading teacher for K-2. My collection of books for the children to take home is fairly limited, so I am looking for funds to buy new, interesting, and diverse books.

Children need to read to be successful and motivation is key. Varied books with new titles and interesting topics are key. I would like the children to pick a book and read it nightly to practice fluency, decoding, and comprehension, but mostly to LOVE READING!

These books will be used at home with parents and then returned. I work with an urban population with a large number of students that come from poverty. Our school is 75% free and reduced lunch. I service 36 children. I want my students to have the experiences to make them enjoy reading but also to succeed. Having the necessary materials is essential to them growing as readers.

The more exposure to books and reading the more the children will excel and be able to develop their reading skills. I want my students to be life long learners and I believe these experiences start in primary. Having the parents be part of the reading experience will not only create a bond with the parent and child, but it will also allow the parent to see current reading development. Thank you for your time and your generous contribution to our children!

The cost of the Leveled Books Classroom Library, four Extra Book Sets, and a Book Bin is $912, including shipping and fulfillment ?.

Dear Joan, SN and Susan,
Thank you very much for your donation. I am very grateful that I had a donor to complete this dream project. I am very excited about implementing the materials with my students. This is an honor, to have someone hear and honor my request. I cannot thank you enough for your commitment towards our children.

On Feb 21, 2008, Ms. B. followed this note with student letters sent via mail to the donor who completed this project, and to donors who gave $100 or more.
