Mrs. West from Louisville KY is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 1 wireless listening center to develop their reading skills and fluency.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Do you remember what it was like the first time you read a book that you couldn't put down? My students have not yet discovered books that capture their imaginations because many of them are still learning to read fluently. A listening center will help capture their minds and encourage reading!
My students come from a very high poverty area and don't have many things to call their own.
The classroom is the one place that many of them feel safe and want to learn. Our school has had a history of very low test scores and we are doing everything in our power to turn that around. With your help, I want to give my students access to the technology that can help with this. Students need to be given the tools to create a better future for themselves and the world around them. Please help fund this project so that I can help put my students on the path to success!
I am asking you to fund 1 wireless listening center for my students. Children need to hear stories read fluently in order to become fluent readers. With this center, my students will be given the opportunity to listen to some great books that they wouldn't be able to access on their own. When listening to these books, my student will develop reading skills, enrich their vocabulary, and utilize parts of their imagination that have never before been touched. Please give these children a chance, and a hope, for their future.
This project is so important because I believe in the power of reading.
As a child with special needs myself, I understand what it takes to reach children that feel lost and forgotten. Every child can learn to read, but if the proper modeling is not provided, the motivation of the child will be lost! Help me continue to motivate my students with this listening center.
