My Students

First graders love getting mail. Even more, first graders love getting their own bright, interesting, and engaging magazine in the mail each week!

I am a first grade teacher at an amazing public school in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina.

My students come to school eager and ready to learn - their desire to learn keeps me motivated to teach each and every day! First graders are like little sponges...they draw in as much information as possible from their surroundings. They LOVE to learn!

My Project

I would like subscriptions to two different magazines for my students. Weekly Reader and Time For Kids are weekly classroom news magazines that motivate kids to read! These magazines will promote literacy and give each child the opportunity to read a piece of print media in class and at home. Each issue covers a wide range of real-world topics kids love to learn about. Increased exposure to non-fiction topics dealing with science and social studies will help my students with reading comprehension. I have requested 15 1st grade subscriptions of Time For Kids for my grade level or struggling readers. Working with a teacher, my struggling readers can find success with these magazines. I have also requested 15 2nd grade subscriptions of Weekly Reader for enrichment. Working in pairs and with the teacher, I can use these magazines to provide challenging activities for all my students. We must always shoot for the moon and reach for the stars!

These weekly magazines will build reading and writing skills and they are easily integrated across all areas of our curriculum, including social studies, science and math.
