My students need a variety of toys to tell their stories. They need a diverse selection of items including blank books to use when they communicate what they are feeling.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Play Therapy! Children communicate through play. My children use toys to unlock the feelings they have inside. We don't have many up-to-date toys to use in our school counseling sessions.
My students are wonderful, energetic people who are curious about the world around them.
We live in a very low wealth rural community in NC. Many of my students are from single family homes and have emotional problems. From pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, my children seek help and support for their personal/emotional growth.
My Project
Students will be able to use these new colorful toys when they participate in their school counseling sessions. Their imaginations will soar when playing with these items. The dolls from various cultural backgrounds will allow students freedom to create their own worlds. Through these toys, they will be able to talk about their pain, fears, or joys.
The supplies in this project will help my students understand themselves.
They will be able to manage their feelings in a healthy way. They will experience great academic and personal success by having an early start on emotional development.
