Splash Down into the Ocean with Dolphins at Daybreak
My students need a set of 28 Magic Tree House books, "Dolphins at Daybreak" and the companion book "Dolphins and Sharks". We also need bookmarks for them.
Being whisked away to the middle of the ocean, Jack and Annie enter a world of adventure. My students belong to the Francis Ocean and while our state is landlocked, these books will help us transport ourselves into another world. That's what makes reading fun.
My students love the ocean, when they filled out their 2nd term review to read their parents, most wrote they loved to read books about it.
They are all starting to be able to read chapter books and enjoy being able to read books the older students do. They come from all different backgrounds. I have students who speak English as a second language. Our school is also close to a military base so we do get some military students. Although they all have different backgrounds, they all come to 2nd grade excited to learn.
My Project
I am requesting copies of Dolphins at Daybreak and the non-fiction companion book Dolphins and Sharks. This school year we have been researching ocean life for our ABC's of the Ocean book. At the end of the year, we hold an ocean day where I present each student with their published book and everything we do the entire day goes along with our ocean theme. It's a day they look forward to all year long. It's also one of the last days of school. I want to give each student both of these books to read during the summer. With the summer being the time when many students don't read, I want them to have something that I know they will enjoy and read.
When a student invests time and energy into something, they are more than likely going to follow through and they become even more interested in the subject.
My students need something they are invested in to read over the summer to make sure they continue using the things they've learned during 2nd grade. Both of these books will provide that and I know my students will enjoy being transported into the ocean from their landlocked homes.
