Let our children go! Do you remember the first time you experienced something that left such an impression with you that the memories lasted a lifetime? Our goal is to give our students an experience that will not only provide them with a place-based learning opportunity, but leave lasting memories!

Our students are respectful, responsible, and safe!

This is the motto that we live by here at LMS. We believe that every child deserves an education that is filled with learning opportunities that expand beyond the classroom walls. Many of our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds that have limited opportunities to explore the grand places right in their own state! We truly believe that our mission is to take advantage of the resources in our own community to provide students with the best learning opportunities available. Many of our students are unable to tap into the vast resources even outside that back door! As a result, we believe that the best way to educate our students is to allow them to experience these opportunities first hand. Place-based learning offers opportunities to learn all the subject areas in turn improving all testing strands in reading, math, and science. If given the opportunity, our students will experience learning as was designed to be, hands on!

My Project

Students will apply science, social studies, math, language arts, and physical education to the outdoors! The EPA-approved notebooks we are requesting will provide students with writing materials needed while out in the field making observations, journaling, and sketching. Students will be able to experience firsthand the importance of preservation while applying all subjects and standards. Students will also have the opportunity to experience careers in the field of science, history, math, and language arts by interacting with experts in those fields. The notebooks we are requesting will provide students with a memory bank full of diaries, observations, and sketches that will show growth, but also capture experiences that will last a lifetime. These notebooks will be used to assess student growth and understanding as well as provide students with piece of history that they can reflect upon for years to come! These notebooks are also waterproof which is perfect for outdoor observation!

Expedition Yellowstone will leave students inspired to make a difference in their own community.

By getting students involved in activities that will motivate them to take action in preservation while at the same time educate them on the history of the oldest national park. In addition, the students will apply skills and address standards in math, science, language arts, social studies, and physical education. With additional funding, our students will experience learning that will last forever.
