My Students

We did some extensive weeding this past summer in the elementary library. Outdated and worn out books were removed from the shelves. Now we need to add to the collection some newer, popular, and exciting books so the students will be encouraged to read.

Many of our families do not have many books at home to read, so I want to give them a chance to find a variety of good literature on the library shelves.

They spend time riding a bus to and from school and reading will give them a constructive way to spend their time.

My Project

My students need new children's books such as the Junie B Jones series, the Wimpy Kid series, and Cam Jansen books to help restock our library shelves. My students need some books they can read on their grade level and they can also take tests on with the Accelerated Reader Program. Reading to improve their own scores will increase their comprehension and vocabulary and can give them a sense of accomplishment. They need to find the excitement in books that they are now finding in video games. The more books they are exposed to and read, the better students they will become.

At a time when budgets are being cut and library books many not be a top priority, we need additional funding.

New books for the library will help the students get encouraged to read, and this is a habit they can use all their lives.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
