This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help keep our beach clean! As a global awareness magnet , we are dedicated to improving our community. We are very fortunate to be able to use our local beach for physical education, but we want to give back by having "beach cleanup days," a competition between grade levels to exercise and recycle.

We are a magnet school which pulls from different socioeconomic areas around the city.

Some of our students grow up on the beach, while others have never been. The students we teach are wonderful young people who are on their way to becoming great global ambassadors.

My Project

The pedometers will allow our students to learn about exercise while they help keep our local beach clean. The pedometers allow students to track their distance over time and also allow them to learn important information about calories. Our school will compete to determine which grade level can clean up the most trash, as well as accumulate the greatest amount of steps. Being able to keep track of calories will also help students understand what it takes to burn off what they eat and gain a better understanding of healthy living.

This project will help motivate students to exercise and improve the community.

With the growing obesity epidemic, what better way to help students stay in shape and become productive members of the community? Thank you so much for your help!
