Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

There's nothing like picking up a good book and losing yourself in the story. Unfortunately, many of my students are not able to do this because they struggle with pronunciation and word recognition.

My students come from a low income area, where more often than not both parents need to work full time, which makes it difficult for them to help their children with their school work.

Most of my students are English Language Learners, ranging from levels 1 to 5. Many do not have the opportunity of being exposed to the English language at home so that they can further develop their vocabulary, which would help improve their reading.

My Project

I am requesting a listening center for my classroom so that my students can have more opportunities to read and listen to books throughout the school day. Listening to stories will not only help them improve their word recognition and reading, it will also allow them to enjoy books.

This listening center will help my students become better readers because they will be able to follow along as they hear the stories and give them the repeated exposure that they need in order to master the language.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
