This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember being a first grader, picking up a book and being captivated by a story's characters and pictures and wondering what the words said?

My students are 75% English learners.

I do not speak their language, so I can't support them in some ways. However, they are excited to speak, participate, and share in their best English. I want to support this enthusiasm. Most of my kids have no access to English reading material at home. Furthermore, their parents can't support or correct their child's attempt at reading correctly. Being able to follow along with a story will allow them to hear proper forms of English, listen to correct pronunciation, increase their reading comprehension, all the while enjoying a great book!

My Project

I am requesting a wireless CD listening center and set of four wireless headphones so my students can have the opportunity to visit the center and be proactive in improving their reading and language skills. They will be reassured when they read and communicate in English because they have heard correct pronunciation and they will improve their understanding because they can connect language and meaning to the pictures. More than one students would be able to follow along with a story on CD and not have to hold on to the oversize headphone set we currently have.

A wireless listening center and wireless headphones will allow a group of kids the chance to grab a good book and control the volume to meet their own needs.

They won't bother their neighbors or argue about how loud the machine needs to be. They will learn English while they make any corner in the room a cozy nook to enjoy a wonderful story!
