Look, Listen And Turn

My students need a CD player to listen to books on CD. Listening to stories told by story tellers help children enjoy literature, track the words and read fluently.

My Students

Children love stories, especially stories told by story tellers! What a great way to engage a child in reading! Children learn to read by listening, sounding out and tracking words on a page. Help make it a fun, enjoyable experience while a child's love for reading blossoms!

My children come from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds.

Our school is a neighborhood school which includes parents who are current students at UCLA and live in the student housing, a few families live below the poverty line on food stamps and free school lunches, and some families have two working parents and live in houses. All the families however strive to provide the best for their child and highly value education.

My Project

By helping to provide these much needed material the children will gain access to stories told by a professional story teller which will create an enjoyable learning environment and instill a love for reading. Most of the children don't have the opportunity, other than at school, to hear a well read story with expression. Let's give them the experience!

My project is so important because reading is the basis for learning.

I want my children to love reading. So many children don't like to read. I want to give them every opportunity to want to read!
