This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you know who's the stepchild in the world of mathematics? It's geometry because it only represents about 3% of California Standards. Hence, only a small portion of classroom time is devoted to this very important strand.

I teach 3rd students that live in a socially and economic disadvantaged areain California.

100% of my students are enrolled in the district's free lunch program. The miraculous thing about our socioeconomic conditions is that my students DON'T use them as a barrier or hindrance. Rather, they embrace their culture and their education. It is ingrained in our students that education is the key to improving their lives.

My Project

I'm requesting a classroom set of 2D & 3D flipboards to motivate and challenge students to learn the basic concepts of geometry. These flipboards are a great educational tool because it allows students to utilize visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning senses. In addition, the geometry flipboards self-correct for immediate student feedback.

As educators, we sometimes forget the importance of geometry.

I'm preparing my 3rd grade students for geometry, algebra, trigonometry, and calculus at the high school and college level. By building a strong foundation in geometric concepts, my students will be prepared to become high achievers in the upper grades.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
