My Students

My students adore being read to, but a lot of them are not read to at home. Many engaging picture books are above my first graders' reading ability, but books on CD with accompanying texts make exciting story books accessible to them, without the help of a better reader.

My students are first graders at a K-4 Charter School.

Our school population is 85% Latino, 9% African American, 4% American Indian, and 2% Caucasian. About 85% of the students in my class are English language learners. Our school's mission is to close the achievement gap, and get 100% of our students college ready.

My Project

I'm planning to foster my student's love for reading with these texts on CD with multiple accompanying texts. Listening and following along with audiobooks improves fluency, expression, and allows students to engage in the reading process with stories above their reading level. Having multiple copies of the books will enable readers to cooperate, follow along, and improve reading behaviors.
