Music Makes the World Go Round

My students need an iHome Portable Speaker System for my Apple iPad and iPhone to listen to audio books, music during Writer's Workshop, and for Brain Break music.

My Students

Added pressure of standardized tests and teacher evaluation based upon student performance mean students are working harder than ever, with fewer breaks. I want my students to have music in the classroom to remain focused and happy during the day despite growing pressures to perform.

My students are second graders in a suburban school district.

My students consist of 40% ELLs, 20% FRL, and many struggle to focus during the day. While my students are working in a classroom in which I attempt to provide the latest and greatest technology opportunities, most of those opportunities have been achieved through private grants I have written. I use my personal iPhone to play music and an iPad I won through a grant to add music, video, and audio books opportunities for my students. They are hard workers who just require a little extra effort to stay focused throughout the day.

My Project

The iPad/iPhone doc would allow me to play music, audio books, and educational movies in a way that my students cannot view them now. Currently, if we listen to a podcast or an audiobook on my iPhone or iPad, we struggle to hear unless we are completely silent and extremely close. The students would be able to listen to music while working during Writer's Workshop, they would be able to dance and take Brain Breaks to the music as well. Mostly, I would be thrilled to have a device that would allow me to utilize technologies I already have in a much BIGGER and IMPACTFUL way!

This simple device will allow me to expand the possibilities of the technologies I already have in my classroom.
