Inner-City Third Graders Need Books! We Love to Read!
My students need 40 engaging, high-quality books to raise achievement and build a life-long love of reading! Help transform the lives of budding readers.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Liven up our learning! Help an inner-city third grade class build its reading selections. These titles are obtained at a high discount and will help engage and inspire young readers.
Many students have/had parents in jail, and several have moved often in their young lives.
Instability is a theme for many kids. Our class loves to read, and many kids ask to independently read all day long! We are a public school with 100% of kids receiving free breakfast and lunch, indicating they live below the poverty line.
My Project
Transform the lives of readers with high-quality, award-winning fiction and non-fiction! These books were obtained at a steep discount, everything from multicultural literature with characters who reflect students, to "Captain Underpants" (!!) and "Diary of a Wimpy Kid." Best of all, I will share these books with other teachers, and we will treasure them for many years to come. We have a class library check-out system to ensure the books will be treasured for countless current and future students.
Behavior problems and dis-engaged students; two huge problems at times with traditional reading class.
Discouraged students reading below grade level, another challenge. Help liven up our class with a rich library of resources that appeals to many reading levels, so all kids can experience success! Many books I chose are also humorous, to bring joy and levity to kids with challenging home lives :)
