Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Comic books are often written off as trashy or too simplistic compared to other forms of literature, but I have seen students start as reluctant readers, fall in love with reading through comic books, and then continue onto longer chapter books.

Older students have a hard time reading and getting excited about the library's collection.

We have the classics, and award winners, but what they really love is reading and learning about comic books. I have seen their excitement when they first read the Bone and Amulet series, how they laughed when reading a Magic Pickle, and how student who don't know how to read are able to check out a book that everyone else wants and be able to feel like they are reading it too.

My Project

These books are perfect for students that are new to the comic genre. They will also help students learn techniques and possibly inspire them to become comic book illustrators. The materials are perfect for the ages of my students and they are sure to become some of the most requested books in our library.

Students who aren't interested in reading or who are having trouble reading at their level need books that engage them.

By providing us with these comic primer books, you will help instill a love of reading in these at-risk children.
