Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The challenge facing my students is lack of access to technology. I am expected to teach them to write a research report using the Internet, but they do not have access outside of school. I want them to remain competitive in a job market that will expect them to be technologically savvy.

My students are very hardworking, yet they are not given the same learning opportunities at home that they need.

A parent can buy a computer, but without Internet and a working computer, I can not send them home to watch a persuasive speaker, do Online research, or Google information. I need to show them how this is a necessity and my classroom should reflect the use of technology that will be expected of them.

My Project

Research is an essential part of writing. Yet, without the appropriate technology, how can I model what I would like them to do on their own. It is a necessity to be able to access the Internet and show them examples of the concepts and ideas we are talking about. We are reading about Harriet Tubman, but it would come alive and form a more solid connection if I could show them the route she took on the Underground Railroad. A tablet would make information more readily accessible for both my teaching and my students' learning.

I think that all students need to be prepared for a competitive job market that's awaiting them.

This tablet will not only create the students of today, but the employees of tomorrow!
