This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Can you imagine a preschool classroom without an easel? Most of my students have NEVER painted on an easel. Currently, they paint on a table. They enjoy painting and I know they would create even more beautiful paintings if they had an easel that they could use indoors and outdoors.

My students are a wonderful group of kids.

They are very sweet and energetic. They enjoy art and music. They are learning to work and play together. They are 3-5 years old and have a variety of disabilities. Most have significant delays in language and cognitive abilities. Our school is located in a very low income and densely populated community in Southern California.

My Project

I selected the easel that could be used by four children at the same time. I think it is very important for young children to work together. I could use this easel as a center for a group of students. Our classroom is small and we do not have space for individual easels.

Art is a great way for young children to express themselves.

Many of my students are nonverbal. They communicate with gestures and sometimes single words. I encourage my students to express themselves through art. Each month, my students draw a self portrait. It would be great if they could paint their portraits (and anything else they'd like) on an easel.
