Kindergarteners Need To Hear Stories

My students need a listening center, with a CD player and wireless headphones, that allows them to hear stories and practice their new reading skills independently.

My Students

Have you ever been in a kindergarten room and seen the children excited about books? Did you ever see them gather around a listening center and share books together? My classroom is very out of date and no longer has a working CD/tape player or any headphones for the students.

The children in my class are very motivated to learn to read.

I have students learning their letters and others reading at a third grade level. They are amazing kindergarteners that attend a small International Baccalaureate School in the Los Gatos Mountains. The current state budget doesn't leave a lot of room for updating classroom materials.

My Project

I am requesting a wireless listening center with 6 sets of headphones. This will allow my children to explore reading independent of an adult and at their appropriate level. My children love books and would be so excited to sit down with a reading partner or reading group and practice their newly acquired skills. During this time, I would be able to pull a small reading group and help them expand their reading knowledge as well. It would be amazing to have all my readers on track at the same time!

Having a strong foundation in reading is essential to a child's success in school.

There is technology available (a wireless listening center) that would help me improve my current reading program. A listening center would help ensure that students were hearing literature that was at their appropriate reading level. A wireless center helps by allowing students to move to any area of the room to listen and read together. Your donations will make a difference in my children's reading.
