This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine having access to something you need and are successful with and then having it taken away from you. My special education classroom was moved from a site where we had access to technology to a site where we do not even have a laptop computer.

My students are 4-6th graders who have specific learning disabilities.

These students are located in a low socioeconomic area. They are very eager to learn but have few resources at home and at school. The few resources we were "loaned" were stolen a month after school started. Nobody is willing to replace them.

My Project

Having a laptop will allow my students to access the core curriculum as the majority of it is computer-based. We were loaned another projector and now have a locked cabinet, but we still do not have a laptop from which to project the curriculum. This is particularly important in our Reading program so I can display words to songs as they are played. It is also vital in teaching math as the concepts are shown in video form that the students really enjoy.

Replacing this technology will be invaluable to helping my students get up to grade level standards.

Accessing core curriculum presented in videos and via games is very helpful in addressing all learning styles.
