My Students

Did you ever have a HUGE HEADACHE???? Well that can be exactly what it feels like for little K-1 children in a special needs class who have sensory issues.

I teach a special needs class in NYC where the children have a range of learning disabilities.

My little ones (5-7 years old) are kind and good hearted children. They face challenges that other children without disabilities can do seamlessly such as holding a pencil, writing a name or putting a piece of paper in ones folder.

My Project

My students desperately need a quiet corner with three large pillows. My children need a place in the room where it is comfy, visually appealing and safe to lie down for a few minutes to take a break if needed. My students cannot engage in a task for more than 5-10 minutes without needing a break. This area would provide them with a break giving them the stamina they need to continue working. It will also provide them with stability knowing they have a special place they can move to in the classroom at anytime.

These pillows will make a huge difference to my students because it will provide them with stability knowing they have a special place to get away and take a break.

Therefore increasing the chance of task completion. Also, it will provide a HUGE incentive to read during reading time.
