Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In the past, I used taped stories that go with a book, but some of the tapes are very old and not in good condition anymore. Now I use a CD player. There are newer books with more Cd's now. That is a good reason to get a second and smaller portable CD player and some headphones.

I have 22 students in my room and all of them are Hispanic heritage background.

My school is located on the east side. I have been teaching in this same area for 33 years and most of the children are eager to learn. They enjoy listening to stories and the listening center. My students are learning to read and 20% of them are able to read at grade level. I have taught this lower grade for most of my career and the children are simply a challenge everyday. I haven't missed a single day of it, too.

My Project

I have a few Cd's, but not enough room for students to sit in a cluster. I can fit two students at a time. A new CD player, with headphones, will be perfect to accommodate in a small corner of my not so large bungalow room for my lower grade class. Many of my students will not have to wait so long to get to the listening center.

My students have difficulties with reading, so a new CD player and two new headphones will encourage the students to learn to like books and help them to read on their own.

Some of the students enjoy listening to the CD over and over again.
