Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

What are the colors of the United States flag? Black, gray, and white? Aren't they red, white, and blue? How do I teach my students with special needs the specific meaning of our flag colors if all they see are pictures in black and white?

I teach a group of students with specific learning disabilities from grades 3 to 6.

Their reading levels are different and each students' needs are very challenging, but they are very bright and with daily practice they can succeed and meet their specific goals.

My Project

Charles Thompson, Secretary of the Continental Congress, reporting to Congress on the Seal, stated: "The colors of the pales (the vertical stripes) are those used in the flag of the United States of America; White signifies purity and innocence, Red, hardiness & valour, and Blue, the color of the Chief (the broad band above the stripes) signifies vigilance, perseverance & justice." What a powerful thing to teach our students! Color is a powerful learning tool, and educators know it - there's plenty of research to prove it. According to an independent study by Loyola University, color accelerates learning and recall by as much as 78%.

Special needs students in my class need your support.

They need to know that we believe in their efforts and abilities to succeed. Help me help my students succeed by being able to print doing research projects in actual color.
