Cooking in the Classroom

My students need food preparation supplies such as a cotton candy maker, cookie sheets, baking pans, and measuring tools for cooking to allow them to sell items at school functions in order to work on social, pre-vocational, and money skills.

My Students

Help us to help ourselves! I teach special needs students. We need cooking items to help us increase pre-vocational, social and money counting skills.

My students range in age from 11-15 and are in a Self-Contained Special Education classroom.

We work on academic, as well as, Vocational skills. All of my students are mainstreamed for non-academic classes and some are mainstreamed with their peers for Science. Our school is a high poverty school.

My Project

We wish to use these supplies to make and sell various items to individuals attending different school sponsored events. I have requested the cotton candy machine to make cotton candy for ballgames, dances and other school sponsored events. Operating the cotton candy machine will give my students a sense of accomplishment. They will have the satisfaction of knowing they can do something that others in our school cannot do. The air bake cookie sheets will allow them to make cookies without burning them. The candy thermometers and various measuring devices will allow my students to practice the cooking skills they will need as adults. My children will use these items to prepare, cook, and package the items we will sell at bake sales within our community. Through the use of the cookie sheets, cotton candy machines, and various measuring instruments, my children will gain many of the skills they will need to live as independently as possible.

This could truly be the gift that keeps on giving.

Students attending my classroom will be able to benefit from your donations for years to come. All money raised from selling the baked items and cotton candy will be used to help fund many projects and adventures for all my current and future students.
