Using Literature and Word Problems for Everyday Skills!

My students need math games, puzzles, and problem solving kits to be able to solve real word math problems. These materials will help my students reach this goal.

My Students

Do you remember when you learned to calculate a tip or figure out how much tax you will have to pay? My students are struggling with these same issues. It is my hope that by using Literature and word problems in my daily lessons this can change for my students.

My students attend a Title One school and most of them receive free and reduced lunch.

I have 32 students in two classes. They are all bright students eager to learn in their own special way. It is my hope to open doors through literature, so they can retain Math Concepts for life.

My Project

The problem solving kits I am requesting will challenge my gifted students as well as draw in my strugglers. It is my hope that by using literature and word problems to help teach Math concepts my students will retain the information taught. The kits I am requesting are real world problem solving activities. These problem solving activities and the literature will reach all my students no matter what their ability is.

This project is so important so to my students because they need to be productive citizens when they graduate and these skills will help them achieve that goal.

Retaining information is a big problem in the lower grades. It is my hope that by using literature and word problems my students will retain the skills I teach.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
