Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In order to tap into my pre-k students' enthusiasm and curiosity for learning, I am in need of art supplies and creative learning materials. This will enable them to access the curriculum in a stimulating and enjoyable way.

Our school is in a lower socioeconomic area of Los Angeles.

Due to budget constraints, the school cannot provide the materials necessary to successfully implement the pre-K curriculum. My 36 students are predominately Spanish-speaking. They are thrilled to be in school and ready to learn.

My Project

The paints will enable the children to use their imaginations while developing fine motor skills. For example, after learning about shapes, they can reinforce the lesson taught by recreating "Shape Men" with painted circles, rectangles, squares and triangles. The ABC mats and Let's Get Moving (numbers 1-10) builds skills through play. They also promote gross motor development through skipping, jumping, and hopping. Lastly, the versatile easel will allow me to use magnetic letters, numbers, shapes, interactive flannel board stories, and write and wipe activities. It is a tool that contributes to good teaching practices and facilitates engaging and worthwhile lessons.

My students are 4 years old.

This is their first experience with school. I want to make it a great year that they will remember. It is the foundation for the rest of their formal education. When they get to kindergarten, my hope is that they'll not only be academically ready, but also positive and enthusiastic learners. The requested materials will have a great impact on my ability to keep my lessons effective and also fun for these young precious minds.
