My students need math manipulatives, such as base-ten blocks, large-sized magnetic dollars and coins, number sense activities and an organizer to hold these items.

My Students

Do you remember what it was like to sit and listen to a lecture while attempting to learn a new concept? I would like to change the way some concepts are taught in my room by having hands-on manipulatives available for my students to better reach all learners.

My class consists of 27 students.

We have over 77% of the students qualifying for free and reduced price lunch. The school is a public, small town school in Michigan. Due to the current economy, the aid available for supplies in classrooms has been cut drastically, leaving teachers and students with the bare minimum.

My Project

My students will use the magnetic money to learn skills, such as organizing change into an order in which the students should count it. They will also learn to make change. The students will take part in activities such as buying and selling. The base ten blocks will help students learn place value and represent large numbers. They will have the opportunity to build numbers as well as read and write the numbers they build. Another great resource, the 3-d shapes, will allow students to identify real life objects and the names representing the shapes.

This project is very important to the students in my classroom.

They helped write this grant based on the manipulatives we don't currently have. The supplies would help us learn skills that are required goals and objectives at our grade level.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
