Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember picking up a book and being excited? Well my students are not there yet. They comprehend and can use all the comprehension strategies when they are read to. When they are on their own, their decoding skills do not yield them with the words on the text they are reading.

My students are second language learners who need the visuals as well as the interactive reading to engage them.

They need to see and hear proper pronunciation of words because the only model that they have is me. They live in a community were vendors who are Chinese or Korean learn Spanish to communicate with them. The dynamics of the population of the school is low income students who qualify for title one and the free lunch program.

My Project

The tablets will be used in a center were the students will work independently after the guided lesson to strengthen their comprehension skills. The interactive reading will give them practice with the spelling and decoding patterns provided in the directive lesson. They will hear proper pronunciation of the different spelling patterns. This will intern develop the love for reading, because now they will be able to pick up a book and understand and enjoy what they read.

Thanks to your generous donation of the five tablets, my students will be able to get that one on one practice with the interactive learning, the reading practice they tend to avoid and most important the love for reading.
