My Students

Close your eyes. Think of what you see when you visualize a kindergarten classroom. Chances are, you most likely imagine a big rug for all the students to sit on during calendar and story times. Our class is in need of this rug so that we can learn whole group in a fun and manageable way.

My class is a fun group!

We have 18 kindergarten students, and throughout the day we are constantly changing activities in a structured way to maximize their learning and their attention span. Our class is full of high energy students who are beginning to read. They love to play games to help with their reading, and love to use manipulative and technology with reading and math. They are beginning to put ideas together to become writers. They have fantastic imaginations! My students attend a school in Georgia that has over 60% of the students on free or reduced lunch. Even though our class is made of different economic backgrounds, the students get along well together and work well to achieve fun while learning.

My Project

A big carpet for our classroom will help in many ways. As the teacher, I will be able to manage the students more effectively during calendar and reading times by having enough room for all the students to sit comfortably. A big carpet will also insure that there is enough space so that messing with each other is not tempting. The carpet has the alphabet on it, and this will help the students recognize the letters and help with letter sounds and words that start with the letters. So many activities to help enhance learning could come from this rug!

Because of budget cuts to education, it is hard for school systems to help supply every possible need and want for teachers in their classrooms.

Donating to this project will help my kindergarten students maximize their whole group time by having space to learn, and by having fun learning as well!
