Tennis Anyone? On The Road To A More Focused Classroom...
My students need chair socks to help keep our classroom a quieter place, white boards to make math more interactive and partitions to keep our brains focused on our work.
Help make our classroom and school quieter! Imagine being focused on your work and being interrupted by the sound of a screeching chair next to you. The noise level in our classroom is out of this world when all of the students are getting up and down from their desks throughout the day.
My class is made up of twenty-three very active third graders that live in upstate New York.
They are very energetic and always willing to go out of their way to help each other. We are a very interactive bunch and we love getting up and moving around with every lesson, but there is one problem: the noise! On top of 23 voices, the chairs from our desks make such noise every time they are pushed in and out for an activity. The students become so distracted and the lesson takes longer just trying to quiet them down and get them back focused on the main topic that we are learning about. I can’t imagine what it sounds like for the class on the first floor that is under our room! My Project
This group of third grade students will be able to focus more on the task at hand and not get so caught up in what everyone else is doing every time we need to get out of our chairs. Since the noise level of the chairs will go down, the whole level of our classroom environment will also be improved. The students won’t be distracted when others get up to use the rest room, ask a question, or help out another student. Although it seems like an odd request, this simple change will really help some of my students who have trouble with attention and focus ( and I imagine it will make a world of a difference for the second grade class below us!).
The privacy partitions will also be helpful in cutting down on distractions.
