Once Upon A Time in Kindergarten!

My Students

Each year we read many versions of classic fairy tales such as Goldilocks and the Three Bears to help build a sense of story and so we can compare and analyze these classic stories. My children need puppets so they can act out these stories and increase their language skills.

My students are creative kindergartners who enjoy acting out the classic stories they hear at circle time.

They enjoy our book studies and are excited when they have props to retell these stories. They also love creating art that represents the stories we read as well as writing their own versions. These activities not only provide them with language opportunities, but encourages them to write to expand on their own ideas.

My Project

Children need resources in order to grow and develop as readers and writers. My kindergartners find their voice as they explore the time old stories such as Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Little Red Hen, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, and The Three Little Pigs. Using their creative power to act out these stories helps them to develop as readers and writers as they repeat the familiar text and put their own personal spin on the story. The children find out that they can act out and write their own version after listening to the many versions read at circle time. These activities empower the children and help them to see all they can do. Having puppets to act out these stories will add a concrete version in which they can experiment with both language and story.

My students love story-time!

They especially love when we are involved on an Author's Study or Book Study. They love reading the many books written by a particular author and comparing their works. They also love when we are working on a book study reading as many versions of a particular story we can find. Our most recent study was that of the Gingerbread Man. We read over 10 versions! The children gain so much from these studies and find their own creative ways to expand their knowledge.
