How do you remember music class? Sitting cross-legged on the floor listening to a record player? Singing with the teacher who played the piano? Marveling at the cassette player with dual playing capabilities? Today's students have gone digital and we need your help to hear the music!
I teach in a rural school district and see nearly 450 students in Kindergarten through 6th grades.
Community members often feel isolated as they must drive 20 minutes to the nearest town to buy groceries and other necessities. The community offers no local fine arts performance opportunities or musical venues. Students must travel over an hour and a half for cultural events like concerts and art museums. For most students experiences with musical instruments, dance and composing come only at school.
My Project
We are thankful for our beautiful music room, but right now we are having difficulty hearing the music that we use for listening examples and to accompany our singing. Most music is stored digitally on the classroom computer and right now there are only computer speakers to project the sound. Occasionally music is burned to a CD to be used for performances, listening centers and other portable activities but the sound quality is poor and often the students have to sing quietly or stop singing to hear where they are in the song.
Today's students rarely own records, tapes or CDs. Their music comes digitally via their phones and MP3 players and the music classroom is changing to keep up with the times. With your help we will add a Bose SoundDock to our classroom. The SoundDock will connect to a computer or MP3 player. This will allow us to experience music with amazing quality and most importantly will allow everyone to hear it
Will you partner with us to let the beauty of crystal clear music stream through our music room?
Your help will not only improve the sound quality of music in our classroom but will ignite students' imagination and love of music through vivid musical experiences.
