The First Annual Soup-er Bowl

My students need resources, like clay and glaze, to execute an arts-related community philanthropic project (working with local potters and chefs) - 'Soup for Soul.'

My Students

I would like to teach/reinforce to my students the importance of using their artistic gifts/talents to benefit others less fortunate. We are participating in a community-enriching project which will, hopefully, instill in my students the importance of "giving back".

Students, working with teachers and local potters, will learn to throw on a potters' wheel and create bowls that will help feed those in need.

With these bowls, we will hold a charity event: 'Soup for Soul'. At the event, guests will choose a hand-crafted bowl. The bowl will be filled with a variety of soups (donated from local chefs) and all monies will be donated to the local food bank. I have considered implementing this project for a number of years. I have recently relocated to our high school where I am working with students that are excited about using their artistic talents to give back to their community. As budgets are cut, the art department has had to scale back considerably. We are seeking donations for this valuable project and hope to continue to hold it for years to come. This project will be an experience that teaches students how to use the power of the arts within our community to change lives.

My Project

The resources that I am requesting will be used to supplement school resources. Students will be able to create beautiful bowls for our guests to take home as a momento from our first annual "Soup for Soul" event. "Go into the world and do well. But, more importantly, go into the world and do good." --Minor Myers, Jr. Thank you for your generosity!!

The opportunity to serve others and to use our God-given talents for good is an invaluable lesson.

Creating ART creates community. We want to empower our students and encourage them to continue to "give back" through this project.
